Why flag first?

Football Canada recommends flag or touch football for young children, with no formal competition until about age 6, and calls flag the preferred game up to about age 9. Players master throwing, catching, footwork and reading the field before any contact is added. Players can add tackle in the fall from U12, and spring flag continues up to U18.

Spring Flag

A fast, non-contact season for every age group. It suits newcomers trying football for the first time and tackle players who want extra skill work in the off-season. U6 to U12 play co-ed; from U14 up, there are separate female and male groups.
